Liam Rosenior has shared how Chelsea star Estevao Willian cried after suffering an injury setback in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

It is the latest setback for the Blues in their quest to finish in the top five and play in the Champions League next season.

While Enzo Fernández, captain of the team yesterday after a two-game internal suspension, was also forced to sit out due to a worrying calf problem.

Estevao’s injury could jeopardize his appearance at this summer’s World Cup with Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil.

“He was crying at half-time; it was really devastating for him,” said Rosenior, with Chelsea four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

“It looks like it’s his hamstring and that happened at a time when he was running towards his goal for a one-on-one opportunity; he hurt his hamstring at that time. I hope Este comes back sooner rather than later.”

While Fernandez could return sooner, hoping it was just a cramp, although he is now a major doubt for Tuesday’s clash against Brighton.

“I just saw it in the locker room, I think it was his calf,” Rosenior said, and Fernandez was seen rolling off the field after going down in the final minutes of the game.

“I hope it’s a cramp; he’s working on it right now because we obviously want him fit for Tuesday (against Brighton and Hove Albion).

“Tonight he crashed into the club and I don’t expect anything different from a man of his stature and quality.”

Rosenior also admitted that Chelsea face an uphill battle after failing to close the gap in the top five, with sixth place unlikely to secure Champions League qualification next season.

“It’s not insurmountable, but it gives us a mountain to climb and we have to go to Brighton (on Tuesday) with the idea that we have to win that game and start the rest of our season,” Rosenior said.
