The Olympic gold medalist shared in a press conference that she gained 12 pounds heading into the World Cup competition and hasn’t been more “excited” to see what she’s made of.
“Physically I’m possibly in the best shape I’ve ever been in,” Vonn told reporters on December 10. “And my body doesn’t hurt, so that’s the best part of all.”
“My goal was to get a lot stronger this summer,” he continued. “I was leaner than I would have liked last season. I didn’t really have time to prepare, so I didn’t have time to regain my mass. I was still quite a bit lighter than when I was running at my peak.”
The alpine ski racer said she worked hard this summer to reach her goals for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Vonn did intense training and noted it was the most “disciplined” diet she had ever followed.

“I was able to gain about 12 pounds this summer, which I was excited about,” he said. “It took a lot of hard work. I was probably more disciplined than ever with my diet and how I approached the whole summer. I put everything I had into being as physically prepared as possible.”
As he prepares for the 2026 Winter Olympics, he is currently in St. Moritz, Switzerland, for a World Cup competition. He has two downhill events this weekend. Previously, Vonn came out of retirement nearly six years ago after surgery on her right knee.
She plans to compete in downhill, Super-G and combined races for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Vonn is a three-time Olympian after winning 1 gold (Downhill, 2010), 2 bronzes (Super-G 2010, Downhill 2018). She is one of the most decorated alpine ski athletes and the only American woman with Olympic downhill gold.
