“As you can see, it took a lot of plates and screws to put it back together, but Dr. (Tom) Hackett did an amazing job,” Vonn wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Dr. (Randall) Viola for the surgical help too!!”
“Now I’m really bionic,” Vonn wrote when introducing the photo to X.

Accompanied by a video of her being carried in her hospital bed, Vonn added: “With the magnitude of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post-op and haven’t been able to be discharged from the hospital yet…I’m almost there. Baby steps.”
Vonn, who won downhill gold in 2010, was trying to return to the Olympics at age 41. He had already torn his anterior cruciate ligament a few days before the Games. She fell for just a few seconds during the descent at the Games and was airlifted to a hospital.

Last week she also revealed her personal heartbreak. His dog Leo died the day after the accident.

“It has been an incredibly difficult few days,” he wrote. “Probably the hardest thing in my life. I still haven’t accepted that he’s gone.”
