Liverpool dodge bullet as new transfer update emerges

Liverpool made many changes to their squad during the summer transfer window and many fans believed Arne Slot’s men would be almost unstoppable.

The arrival of several players such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz made fans believe they had what it took to retain the Premier League title and potentially win the Champions League.

However, due to the time it has taken their new signings to adapt and the number of injuries the club has suffered, that has not been the case.

They are obviously still in the race for the Champions League title, but with a game against Paris Saint-Germain in the near future, there is some concern over whether the Anfield team has what it takes to succeed.

Liverpool’s spending surpassed the £450m mark in the summer and some fans wanted even more to be spent.

Slot and Richard Hughes managed to lure most of their transfer targets to L4, but there were one or two who slipped through the cracks.

At the time, the players escaping felt like massive blows, but now it might have ended up being a blessing in disguise.

Liverpool transfer target Rodrygo expected to be sidelined for 6-7 months with ACL tear

Rodrygo’s future was one of the most talked about topics during the 2025-26 summer transfer market.

Due to the number of games he played in the Club World Cup, it was clear that the Brazilian was not going to figure in Xabi Alonso’s plans as much as he expected.

Others were often chosen before him. which led to teams like Liverpool and Manchester City are linked with him.

Those rumors have persisted and many think a transfer could be on the table in the summer.

However, after the latest update that has emerged, it seems that the Anfield team have dodged a bullet by not signing the attacker.

Marca highlights that Rodrygo has ‘suffered a tear’ of his anterior cruciate ligament.

The attacker will miss the rest of Real Madrid’s season with his World Cup hopes in tatters.

This injury also means he is unlikely to get the Bernabeu exit he wanted, although Liverpool will need to add a new attacker to their ranks in the future.

Liverpool must focus fully on Yan Diomande or Mateus Mane

In addition to their defense, Liverpool’s attack has been far from its best level.

Players like Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and even Isak have failed to impress despite Salah and Gakpo playing the majority of the Reds’ games this season.

So it’s no surprise to see players like Mateus Mané, Rodrygo and Yan Diomande linked with a move.

It is clear that Liverpool need to start planning for life without Salah over the next year and if they do not concentrate fully on signing an attacker they will miss out on their ideal replacement for the Egyptian king.

Both players would cost an arm and a leg to be released from their clubs but, given that they need to prepare to be Liverpool’s next Salah, their price shouldn’t matter.

There’s obviously no telling what Slot and Hughes are going to do this summer but, if the Dutchman keeps his job, it’s hard to see why a new attacker wouldn’t be at the top of his priority list, especially after the performances his side have put in this season.
