Pep Guardiola has suffered a possible injury after Manchester City star winger Oscar Bobb was sent off 20 minutes into their Carabao Cup quarter-final match against Brentford.

Bobb, 22, has been unlucky with injuries after breaking his leg at the start of the 2024/25 season, having enjoyed a breakthrough year at the Etihad last season.

He missed 200 days and 48 games due to the injury, returning in March 2025, but struggled to hit the ground running as he regained form.

The Norwegian has failed to get going properly this season, making just a handful of Premier League starts and may have been dealt a huge blow in his bid to return to favor after leaving the field early against the Bees with a leg problem.

Manchester City’s physiotherapist was stretching the winger’s leg before it became clear he would not be able to continue, leaving the pitch dejected when Guardiola was forced to introduce Phil Foden early.

Bobb has played just 457 minutes in the English top flight this season, making just one appearance in City’s last seven league games and was dragged off at half-time of their Champions League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen after a disappointing performance.

He actually started the season, but has since fallen behind Jeremy Doku in the pecking order. He has not scored a goal since the opening day, recording an assist in the 4-0 victory against Wolves.

Injuries have hampered his rise, after bursting onto the first-team scene in 2023/24 to be considered one of the league’s brightest stars.

The extent of this latest setback is yet to be revealed, but Guardiola is expected to offer an update in his post-match press conference.

Just before Bobb’s departure, City centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov was lucky to escape a red card after picking off Kevin Schade when the German was clean, while the referee brandished a yellow card.

The Uzbek was saved by the fact that there is no VAR in this round of the Carabao Cup, and City then took advantage of their respite when Rayan Cherki scored a stunning goal to put the hosts ahead.
