“The result is really bitter for us,” said Augsburg interim coach Manuel Baum. “We just have to be smarter and defend until the end. We also had problems with the ball in the first half, but we really should have made it 2-0 with our counterattack opportunities in the second half. So it feels pretty bad.”

The Man of the Match also highlighted that they should have defended better in the final minutes, when Union Berlin were reduced to ten players after Derrick Köhn’s direct red card. “We need to be much more clinical. Especially after the red card, we shouldn’t have let the game slip away with a goal like that so close to the end.”
Returnee Michael Gregoritsch was more optimistic in his post-match interview. “It was a lot of fun playing today at the WWK Arena,” said the forward, who returns to the Bundesliga this January from Brøndby. “We applied the basics and deserved the victory. The late equalizer obviously hurts, but we will use the momentum to get the three points on Sunday.”
Augsburg will host Gregoritsch’s bottom Bundesliga club on Sunday, while Freiburg will visit the WWK Arena.
