Two of Major League Baseball’s biggest teams made two somewhat shocking moves in recent days, with the Boston Red Sox releasing Alex Cora and the Philadelphia Phillies releasing Rob Thomson.

During the offseason, it looked like both captains had a chance to not only win a World Series, but also not lose their jobs.
Things change quickly in this game, and for the New York Mets and captain Carlos Mendoza, that’s something he’ll unfortunately have to deal with.
Some believe Mendoza will be fired in the coming days, although it is considered the most drastic change the Mets could make, not one that will necessarily happen in the immediate future.
“The most drastic change the Mets could reasonably make is to fire Mendoza. The Boston Red Sox showed Saturday that an underperforming team can make that decision in April when they parted ways with Alex Cora, a World Series winner. Mendoza said he considered Cora one of the best managers in the game,” Will Sammon of The Athletic wrote.

For Mets fans who wanted to hire Cora if they decided to leave Mendoza, that doesn’t seem very likely. Cora turned down the Phillies job over the weekend, and the veteran manager suggested he wants to stay with his family for the time being.
