Sen. mike lee (R-UT) was outraged by people making fun of the senator. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) after falling while walking in a Senate building, posting a tweet chastising that “no decent person…should mock the fall of an 83-year-old,” but he himself is guilty of a similar crime.
McConnell fell this week while walking in the basement of the Russell Senate Building, a moment captured on video by activists trying to ask him questions about the ICE raids.
After the video drew ridicule, even from the right, McConnell’s former chief of staff joseph holmes he tweeted a long thread defending his former boss’s legacy.
Lee shared Holmes’ tweets and added his own comment.
“No decent person (certainly no conservative person) should mock the downfall of an 83-year-old,” Lee wrote. “That was heartbreaking, and the idea that anyone would find that funny is hard to imagine.”
However, as other social media users were quick to point out, Lee took a very different tone in July when he tweeted a photo of the former president. joe biden Stumbling on the stairs of Air Force One.
Lee has a history of making bold and controversial social media posts in recent years, especially with his “@BasedMikeLee” account.
In June, he was heavily criticized for several tweets he posted that were seen as callously mocking the targeted shootings of two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses, and baselessly placing blame for the shootings on the left. He then deleted the tweets.
