The Commanders signed Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson in free agency. Both will provide depth and aren’t even guaranteed to make the 53-man roster. Those signings were to ensure that the receiver position, from top to bottom, is in a better position than it was in 2025. Washington still needs a starter opposite Terry McLaurin.

There’s a good chance the Commanders eventually acquire Brandon Aiyuk when the 49ers inevitably move on from him. However, that may not happen until June. Does Washington want to take the risk of some team giving San Francisco a pick for Aiyuk and his contract? It doesn’t seem possible, but never say never.
Let’s go back to the draft.
While considered a deep wide receiver class, three players stand out from the rest: Carnell Tate (Ohio State), Makai Lemon (USC) and Jordyn Tyson (Arizona State). Depending on who you talk to, each of the three has a strong case to be the top receiver selected in next month’s draft.
However, Tyson has some red flags due to his health. As a freshman, Tyson suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL. In 2024 he suffered a broken collarbone. And last season, he missed four games due to various hamstring injuries. Now, there’s potentially more bad news for Tyson.

NFL draft analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic revealed that Tyson will miss Arizona State’s pro day due to his lingering hamstring injury.
Here is Brugler:
This is not good news for the 6-foot-2, 203-pound Tyson. He also did not work at the NFL combine last month. Brugler said Tyson was hoping to run some routes at some point before the draft. Arizona State’s pro day is March 27, which would give Tyson less than a month to train for NFL teams. When you watch the tape, Tyson may be the most impressive receiver in his class. He does everything well and is explosive on the field. Tyson can play inside or outside, runs fluid routes and thrives in contested catch situations.

Tyson is a first round talent. But it looks increasingly risky for the Commanders with the No. 7 overall pick. If Washington could somehow move down, he would become a more viable option. It’s unfortunate for Tyson, who is a fantastic player.
