The Nets announced Saturday that Powell will miss Sunday’s game against the Toronto Raptors due to his injury, and as of this writing, Brooklyn has not explained the severity of his sprained ankle. After Thursday’s loss to Miami, Nets coach Jordi Fernandez said he didn’t know anything about the severity of Powell’s injury, but that the team would have to evaluate him.

As of now, Powell will be out of Brooklyn’s rotation and someone will have to step up in his absence. Forward Jalen Wilson came off the bench to score eight points and two rebounds in 13 minutes despite not getting consistent playing time, and Fernandez was looking to play with as many rookies as possible and leave some time for the veterans as well.
Wilson, 25, is averaging 5.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per game while shooting 37.9% from the field and 36.2% from three-point range, but has seen his role in the rotation diminish compared to the start of the season. In Brooklyn’s last eight games, Wilson has not played in four of those games, but in the four games he has played in during that span, he is averaging 5.4 points and 1.4 rebounds while shooting 47.9% from the floor.
Another interesting item on the Nets’ injury report is that rookie guard Ben Saraf is out for Sunday’s game against Toronto as he is on his G League assignment. The Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, are playing in the G League Showcase in Florida, and with Brooklyn recalling rookie Nolan Traore from Long Island, it appears he could be ready for some backup point guard minutes with Saraf out of the rotation.
