BOSTON — A commercial fishing vessel capsized off Cape Cod on Thursday, sparking a search in which one person was pulled from the water and another remains missing, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
Coast Guard spokeswoman Kyra Chantry said the person who was recovered “was transferred to higher medical care.”
Coast Guard Sector Southeast New England received notification shortly before noon that the Yankee Rose had capsized three nautical miles (3.5 miles) northeast of Race Point in Provincetown, Chantry said. Coast Guard crews arrived at the scene along with local agencies minutes later, Chantry said.
Chantry said that one of the people on board was transferred to receive medical care while the search for the other person is still ongoing.
The Yankee Rose, which was docked at the pier, was also the site of a police response on Feb. 26 as police and firefighters responded to a report of an unresponsive person on the ship, the Provincetown Police Department said in a statement.
Responders found two people unconscious due to what appeared to be carbon monoxide exposure, Boston radio station WBUR reported. I mentioned. The two people and six others — five emergency responders and the harbormaster — were sent to the hospital to be evaluated for their carbon monoxide exposure. All eight were released from the hospital the next day.
Provincetown is located at the end of Cape Cod, about 115 miles (185 km) from Boston and 150 miles (241 km) from Gloucester by car. Gloucester was the site of Marine disaster Earlier this winter when a commercial fishing boat called the Lily Jane sank, killing all seven people on board.
