Patrick Reed is built for Augusta.

The 2018 Masters Champion has been on fire until Friday and finished his second round in second place in the standings. Reed’s trip to Augusta this year was a bit unique, to say the least, as he left LIV Golf and committed to waiting until August to return to the PGA Tour.

However, Reed has been playing on the DP World Tour and has proven, not only recently, to be someone really willing to work in the world of professional golf. He will fight for every inch and do everything he can to prove himself and he is doing amazing so far at Augusta National.

As noted, Reed is a previous Masters champion. He won the 2018 version of the tournament and finished inside the top 12 in 6 of the last 8 years. The former Augusta University standout knows this legendary course well.

Reed’s 3-under on Thursday was pretty impressive, a feat he matched on Friday (although I’m sure he was upset about his only bogey of the day on the 18th that lost him a stroke to close things out). It can be argued that despite the identical scores, he had a much better day, exemplified by him hitting 13/18 greens on Friday compared to 10/18 on Thursday.

That Patrick is doing this without the highest level of competitive golf as a way to prepare before the Masters is very impressive. He’s an outlier in that regard and is treading the path he clearly felt comfortable attempting when he made the decision to leave LIV to chart his path back to the PGA Tour.

He is very present as the weekend approaches.
