The update on Cunningham’s injury comes two days after he watched the Pistons earn a 127-116 victory over the Toronto Raptors from the sideline at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday. It also came a week after the All-Star guard spent time at the Henry Ford Health Pistons Performance Center after shootaround, working alongside the team’s trainers on March 25.
Although there have been positive signs in Cunningham’s recovery, there is still no timetable for his return. With six games remaining in the regular season, he will not be able to qualify for end-of-season awards due to the league’s 65-game rule. He had played 61 games at the time of the injury against the Washington Wizards on March 17.Advertisement
“I never thought about it in the past because it never affected us at all,” Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before the Pistons’ 115-101 victory on March 20. “But now, after reading and seeing how many players it affected, including us, yes, it needs to be renewed.”
