San Juan, Puerto Rico — Authorities in the Bahamas said they arrested five passengers on a cruise ship from the United States who were charged with assaulting police officers and resisting arrest in the Caribbean archipelago.
The police said in a statement on Tuesday that the three women and two men were involved in a fight involving a number of cruise ship passengers in the port of Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. The incident occurred on Monday evening.
Officials said a “violent struggle” broke out at a police station after officers prepared to search the five suspects who had been arrested. A woman was accused of throwing a chair through a glass door and smashing it. Police said in a statement that a man was accused of kicking the remaining glass and trying to escape.
Authorities said four police officers were injured, one of whom was seriously injured in his left shoulder and was taken to hospital.
The five suspects remain in custody, and police said the investigation is continuing.
