Prospex Energy’s wholly owned subsidiary PXEN Tatra has been formally awarded the Dunajec onshore block in southern Poland.

The license is the company’s second award in Poland following the granting of the San license earlier this month.

Both the Dunajec and San licenses provide Prospex with a 100% operating interest in regions with existing gas production and developed infrastructure.

The Dunajec surface contains a shallow untapped oil discovery known as the Mniszów area. It includes a previously identified 13 m oil zone lying approximately 600 m deep in fractured carbonate formations.

Drilling activities dating back to 1966, including the Mniszów-3 well, demonstrated during testing an oil-saturated interval flowing at 45 barrels per day. Previous studies estimated that the original existing oil was about two million barrels.

The area remained undeveloped, partly due to the smaller field size and thinner deposit compared to neighboring fields such as Grobla and Pławowice.

Prospex is collecting historical geological and production data from Dunajec and San to inform the design and priorities of future work programs. The company intends to use modern exploration and development methods to evaluate the resource potential in these areas.

PXEN Tatra now holds two licenses within the deep Carpathian Mountains, known as an important Polish gas region with multiple producing fields. The company plans to evaluate opportunities for early development, especially in the shallow oil discovery at Dunajec.

Prospex chief executive Tom Reynolds said: “The formal award of Dunajec means that Prospex has received the two licenses it applied for in Poland, which, together with San, offers a very attractive prospect.

“Both licenses are located within one of Poland’s most prolific gas regions, with Dunajec also presenting near-term development potential through the Mniszow undeveloped oil discovery.”

In November 2025, Prospex Energy submitted a full environmental impact assessment for five new natural gas wells in the El Romeral concessions to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge in Madrid, Spain.
