Raiders could pursue WR Rashid Shaheed after latest update

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to pursue Seattle Seahawks players in NFL free agency. That’s an easy expectation given that the Raiders hired Klint Kubiak as their new head coach. The former Seahawks offensive coordinator would probably love to reunite with some of the players he won Super Bowl 60 with.

The top target could be wide receiver Rashid Shaheed. The Seahawks acquired Shaheed at the trade deadline. He had a huge impact on the Seahawks’ championship run, both as a receiver and as a dynamic special teams returner.

The initial expectation was that the Seahawks would likely re-sign Shaheed. Well, the latest update indicates that the discussions in Seattle may fail. Adam Schefter reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not locked in extension talks and may test the open market. The Raiders should absolutely pay attention.

The Seahawks have to sign extensions to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon. Much of their cap space will disappear once those deals are completed. If Shaheed moves out of Seattle’s comfort zone, expect the Raiders to make an offer, considering they own approximately $88.1 million in cap space.

Kubiak coached Shaheed in New Orleans when he was the Saints’ offensive coordinator. That relationship played a role in the Seahawks’ midseason decision to acquire him. With Shaheed potentially leaving Seattle, the Raiders could try to reunite them for a third run.
