RBC Capital Raises Nutrien (NTR) Price Target Ahead of Q1 Due to Strong Fertilizer Prices

On April 7, RBC Capital raised the company’s price recommendation on Nutrien Ltd. (NYSE:NTR) to $85 from $80. He reiterated an outperform rating on the stock. The update came as part of a broader preview of first-quarter results in the fertilizer sector. The company noted that fertilizer prices were higher than expected during the quarter. The Iran war limited exports from the Middle East, which remains a key supplier of nitrogen and phosphate. Nitrogen, in particular, saw a strong hit, as prices rose due to tighter supply and rising LNG costs increased global marginal production costs, the analyst told investors in a research note. RBC also said it expects Nutrien to continue delivering strong operating performance. In his view, this positions the company to generate strong free cash flow and benefit during periods when fertilizer prices rise, including the current environment where nitrogen prices are supported by disruptions related to the Iran war.

On March 26, UBS downgraded Nutrien (NTR) to Sell from Neutral and raised its price target to $67 from $63. The firm said the stock’s risk/reward has shifted to the downside. Nutrien’s 19% year-to-date rally already reflects a more optimistic outlook for potash market fundamentals. UBS believes this outlook overlooks potential supply and pricing pressure that could arise later in the decade, the analyst told investors in a research note. The company expects potash prices to decline starting in the second quarter. It also considers that prices for 2026 will remain stable, which contrasts with the consensus expectations of increases year after year.

Nutrien Ltd. (NYSE:NTR) operates as a global provider of agricultural inputs and services. The company operates an extensive network of agricultural production, distribution and retail facilities. Its business is organized into the Nutrien Ag Solutions (retail), potash, nitrogen and phosphate segments.
