When Eduardo Camavinga left the field injured against Athletic Club at the beginning of this month, there was optimism that the setback was nothing serious and the player would face only a few days of absence.

In fact, Camavinga apparently returned to training within days and even made the team to face Celta Vigo in Real Madrid’s first game at the Santiago Bernabéu in more than a month.

However, he did not appear from the bench and was soon removed from the squad for the team’s subsequent matches.

The signs pointed to a residual problem from which he had not yet fully recovered.

As COPE reported in a recent update, Camavinga is expected to return to the Real Madrid squad for the team’s match against Sevilla and could even be involved that night.

He probably won’t travel with the team to face Talavera in the King’s Cup midweek game, and it’s understandable, given what it’s like against a lower division opponent.

The idea, needless to say, is to have the midfielder fit and eager to return in time for the clash against Sevilla. Xabi Alonso, after all, sees him as a useful defensive midfielder and inside midfielder in his arsenal.

The Frenchman has largely battled injuries so far this season and has only four starts and eleven appearances for Real Madrid in La Liga.

He has one goal in La Liga this season, which ironically came in the same game in which he was last injured.

Camavinga is expected to serve as Aurelien Tchouameni’s backup when he returns to the team, but there is also a good chance he will feature in central midfield, where the team needs more solidity.

The full-back position is also an outside option, especially given the team’s struggles in the department in recent weeks.
