The Boston Red Sox offense had not scored more than six runs in a game until Saturday, and Willson Contreras delivered a message after that game to hopefully get the offense running more consistently.

“Today we talked about having more energy than before and we did it,” Contreras said after Saturday’s game, according to MassLive Chris Cotillo. “I think that’s what happens when you try to focus on having good energy and not trying to chase results. It can take a lot of pressure off of you to not sit on the bench thinking about getting a hit or a double or a home run. Just bring the energy and no matter what happens.”

Contreras plays with a lot of energy, as fans saw during the Milwaukee Brewers series. Well, his message clearly paid off, as on Sunday the Red Sox scored nine runs and beat the St. Louis Cardinals 9-3.

Contreras and Trevor Story had four hits and things seem to be looking up for the Red Sox. They’ve now won back-to-back series and some of their stars still haven’t hit their stride. It’s a long season, so the Red Sox still have a lot of work to do.

As for Contreras, he is proving to be the hitter the Red Sox needed while filling the leadership void left by Alex Bregman. He is very outspoken and plays with an edge that can impact games. He wants to see his teammates play with some energy too, and they did just that on Sunday.
