The Brooklyn Nets have been in a prolonged rut since the calendar turned to January, as the team has struggled on both ends of the floor since then. Brooklyn was able to rest almost a week due to the All-Star break, but that hasn’t changed the results after the break. Two of the veteran leaders spoke about what needs to change.

“I feel like my timing (with) rebounding is off, some (rebounds) I feel like I could have grabbed tonight, or the last two games. I was like a second late, but we have 27 games left,” center Day’Ron Sharpe said after Friday’s 105-86 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sharpe finished the game with 12 points and eight rebounds, but it was the Nets’ second straight loss after the break after losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 112-84, on Thursday.

“Tonight was a good challenge for us, I felt like we competed better. I think we have to learn as a team during the All-Star break, that’s the time when you still have to work out, move your body to be ready to go out the door,” forward Michael Porter Jr. said during his postgame interview. “I did a bad job at that, as did some other guys. Tonight, fortunately, was better than last night and I hope we can finish the trip with the win.”

The Nets entered the All-Star break having won two of their last three games, but that was against the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls, two teams that could be competing with Brooklyn for draft position in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery. While the Nets will take any win that comes their way, the schedule only gets tougher as they have to visit All-Star forward Jalen Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.

Ultimately, the Nets will have to figure out how to turn their season around at least for the sake of their pride, as they have the second-worst record in the NBA since January 1, with the Sacramento Kings being the only team with the worst win-loss record. As Sharpe said, the Nets have 27 games left to fix the problems they have and that’s a long time when it comes to the league.
