There’s always a chance the Lakers could go after someone no one currently considers a realistic option for them. According to a Substack post by Hardwood Paroxysm, they could try to make a play for Michael Porter Jr. of the Brooklyn Nets. They had previously had interest in Nets center Nic Claxton.
“I’ve heard a lot of conversations between the Lakers and the Nets over the last two years and they already made the trade with DFS (Dorian Finney-Smith), so there is a relationship. Claxton would be a very good option, but there is also a possibility that they go with MPJ.”
Lakers fans remember Porter as a man who gave his favorite team fits as a member of the Denver Nuggets over the past few years. The Nuggets sent him to Brooklyn during the offseason for Cameron Johnson, and he is currently averaging 25.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 48.5% from the field and 39.8% from 3-point range.

Porter, however, would be expensive. He’ll earn a total of $38.3 million this season, so he may be an unrealistic and out-of-reach option for the Purple and Gold, at least for now.
