The famed on-course reporter returns to Golf Channel for select events in 2026, starting at this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Maltbie will call the action at five Tour events in addition to this week as the lead on-course reporter, and will also appear at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship, the Cadillac Championship and the Memorial Tournament, which will be the 50th anniversary of Maltbie’s victory in the inaugural Memorial in 1976. Golf Channel confirmed Maltbie’s return with golf week.

“I’m excited that they still want me to do this, and I guess they feel like I’m still someone that viewers want to listen to,” Maltbie, 74, told Golf Digest. “The bottom line is I want to keep going because I’m a fan of the game. I watch a lot of it from home and I hope I can get over there and see all these new guys and how they play.”
Maltbie, who was let go from his full-time duties at Golf Channel following the 2023 season after he and Gary Koch had their roles reduced for that season, has returned sparingly for events since leaving his full-time duties, including at last year’s Players Championship.
For two of the weeks, including the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Maltbie will work with the CBS Sports team on the weekend, which will be the first time in his career.
“It’s something I’m really looking forward to, working with Jim Nantz and the CBS team, because it’s something I’ve never done before. We’ve been on opposite deals, so it’ll be interesting,” Maltbie told Golf Digest. “You know, this is what I like to do. And I do what they tell me to do. Maybe that’s why they still use me a little.”

Tom Knapp, executive vice president and general manager of Golf Channel, contacted Maltbie in December to see if he would like to return, Golf Digest reported.
“Having the familiar tone of Roger Maltbie on the Golf Channel call as our lead on-course reporter at these iconic venues will be tremendous,” Knapp said. “Roger is one of the most recognized figures in golf and set the standard for golf reporting on the course for 35 years. He is an institution and we are excited to have him.”
Maltbie will also play roles in the US Open, US Senior Open, Senior PGA Championship and American Century Championship.
