Morocco 2-0 Comoros
Although the scoreline suggests the hosts achieved a comfortable victory in the tournament’s opening match in front of their home fans, it was a tie that was not without its share of nervous moments.
Soufiane Rahimi had a golden opportunity from the penalty spot to put Morocco ahead from the start, but saw his penalty saved and it took the hosts until the 55th minute to take the lead thanks to Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz.
However, the most exciting moment of the match was yet to come when Ayoub El Kaabi scored with a powerful overhead shot 15 minutes ago to give his team the three points of the match.

Egypt 2-1 Zimbabwe
An Egyptian team led by Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah was expected to easily overcome Zimbabwe in their first group match, but that was not the case.
Instead, it was Zimbabwe who opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Prince Dube’s goal came against the run of play after Egypt wasted several early chances.
However, the North African team eventually equalized through Marmoush before Salah made sure to secure all three points in the 91st minute when he latched onto a loose ball and slotted home the goal.
South Africa 2-1 Angola
South Africa came third in the previous 2023 AFCON and got off to a good start in Morocco after Oswin Appollis put them ahead in the 21st minute.

However, they were level just 14 minutes later when Show curled a Fredy free kick into the bottom corner.
With nerves building for South Africa towards the end of the match, it was Burnley striker Lyle Foster who gave his country the victory as his beautiful finish from the edge of the box ensured they got off to the perfect start.
Mali 1-1 Zambia
There was more drama in the last minute when Mali took on Zambia.
Lassine Sinayoko put Mali ahead after an hour when she capitalized on a loose ball following a corner kick, but that would not be the end of the score.
With 92 minutes on the clock, a Matthews Banda cross was met by Patson Daka to head home and ensure the points were shared. Daka attempted a backflip while celebrating the tie, but landed on his neck and was lucky to avoid serious injury.
