“Through much prayer and consideration, I am requesting to resign from my teaching and coaching responsibilities at Columbia Academy,” Anderson said in the statement. “I need to take a step back and put my health and that of my family as my top priority.
I am grateful to have been able to coach at Columbia Academy for the last 20 years and to be able to teach for the last 15 years. “I love the mission of Columbia Academy and will continue to support that mission.”

Anderson’s resignation comes weeks after Columbia Academy fired athletics director Pernell Knox. Knox was relieved of his AD duties on February 4, ending a career that began in 2016.
Anderson went 23-23 in four seasons with the Bulldogs, reaching the TSSAA Division II-A state football championship in 2024, a first for the program. He also previously served as the school’s softball coach and won state titles in 2019, 2021 and 2022.
“We love his family deeply and wish him the best,” said school president Dr. James A. Thomas. “We will immediately begin a thorough search for the next coach to lead our football program.”
