LSU football returns to Tiger Stadium on Saturday, hosting South Carolina in a Week 7 matchup. All eyes will be on the LSU offense coming off a bye week.

Last time, LSU fell 24-19 at Ole Miss. It was another tough outing for the offense. The Tigers couldn’t run the ball and Garrett Nussmeier was 1/7 on deep passes.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly met with the media on Thursday and was asked if a more conservative approach would put LSU in a better position to win. Much like the game script LSU followed earlier this season in a 20-10 win over Florida.

“No, I wouldn’t identify offensively as conservative, but I think, you know, if you look at the way we’ve played the game the last two games, it’s been a lot more aggressive on fourth down. You know, I think we played field position a little bit. You know, I feel like our offense is ready to explode,” Kelly said.

Kelly said he doesn’t want to slow down the offense with the mentality of putting the game in the hands of the defense and special teams.

“I don’t think we’re going to play that way. We’re going to take advantage of the resources we have on offense and defense. I’m not going into the game thinking, you know, this is a low-scoring game, keep the points low, kick field goals,” Kelly said.

LSU’s defense is ranked No. 5 nationally in ESPN’s SP+ rankings, one of the best units in the country. LSU needs the offense to hold up its end of the bargain. Expectations were high for LSU’s offense entering the year, but so far, the elements have yet to gel.

Kelly has remained optimistic and fans are hoping LSU irons out some of the kinks during the bye week. LSU will face South Carolina at 6:45 pm CT on SEC Network on Saturday, October 11.
