Adams retired from his position as director of football research five years ago, but took the time to sit down with Patriots insider Mike Reiss for a pre-draft interview. Adams discussed draft strategies, including the process of trading an NFL Draft pick.
“If there’s a player I really want and I call you and start the conversation, I’ll pay full price because you’re in no rush to give me the pick, as opposed to if there’s no one there you want and you’re looking for additional picks and you call me,” Adams told Reiss.
Adams counted this as a warning, warning against falling in love with a particular prospect. However, Adams hinted that he might know when another team has done exactly that.
“You can initiate the trade or (it comes to you). You better know which side you’re on because it will affect the price you’ll have to pay,” Adams said. “This was a place where having some experience on Wall Street as a trader (helped us with) the dynamics of what’s going on.”
