Now that the Los Angeles Lakers are almost in full shape, they have begun to show off their immense star power. LeBron James has returned from his three-game bout with sciatica, and in Tuesday’s 135-118 win against the Los Angeles Clippers, he started to look a bit like his usual self with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, even though he’s still not making much of a statement.

Meanwhile, Austin Reaves dropped 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting and overall is averaging 27.9 points per game on 49.8% shooting from the field. Luka Doncic continues to lead the NBA in scoring and scored an efficient 43 points against the Clippers.

One could argue that while the Lakers may not be legitimate championship contenders, they have the best trio of stars in basketball. That’s the argument that sportscaster Skip Bayless, a well-known critic of James, made in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Bayless called the trio of James, Reaves and Doncic “the best three-man backcourt in NBA history.”

Over the past few years, many have felt that Reaves has been on his way to becoming an NBA All-Star, and this could be the season it happens. If he does, the Lakers will almost certainly have three men in the All-Star Game, and no other team may be able to make the same claim.

What the Lakers don’t seem to have and what teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and New York Knicks possess is a strong, deep supporting cast. But at the top, they are at least as talented and potent as any other team in the league.
