On Saturday, September 20, Newville Diner announced on Facebook that they made the difficult decision to close their doors due to an ongoing issue with their water supply, which had persisted for the past few months.
According to Barsoum, Newville Diner used well water instead of public water, and for the past six months they have had problems with a foul-smelling water supply.
This problem forced restaurant owners to start purchasing their own water, which cost them between $6,000 and $7,000 a month. Barsoum said that as a family business, this was a bill he could no longer afford to pay.
“In the end, we had no choice but to close this chapter,” Newville Diner shared. “Still, we chose a location near Newville so we can continue serving you and so our dedicated staff can stay with us. This is not the end of our story, but a new beginning.”
Although this is the end of the Newville Diner, the owners plan to move their business to a new home with a new name.
Barsoum says he will bring his staff to a new location in the coming weeks. 670 North Hanover Street in Carlisle under the name Dickinson Family Restaurant.
“We truly value each and every one of you,” Newville Diner added. “Closing Newville was not easy, but with God’s plan, when He closes one door, He opens another. We trust in His way and look forward to welcoming you to our new location.”
