Washington– A few Republicans expressed growing concern Sunday about tactics being used by federal immigration officials Minnesota After a US Border Patrol agent Fatal Man shot in Minneapolis.
Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said the killing of Alex Pretty, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, was protesting Saturday. President Donald Trump’s campaign against immigrationIt was “a real tragedy.” Preeti was an American citizen and was born in Illinois.
“I think the deaths of Americans, and what we’re seeing on television, causes deep concerns about federal tactics and accountability,” Stitt told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Americans don’t like what they see now.”
When asked if he thought the president should pull immigration agents from Minnesota, Stitt said Trump should answer that question.
“He’s getting bad advice right now,” Stitt said.
The governor said the Republican president needs to tell the American people what the solution and “endgame” is, and that solutions are needed instead of politicizing the situation. “Right now, nerves are going crazy and we need to calm this down,” Stitt said.
Other Republicans, including Sens. Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, have also expressed concern. In a social media post, Cassidy called the shooting “incredibly troubling” and that “the credibility of ICE and DHS is at stake.” Tillis urged a “thorough and impartial investigation.”
“Any administration official who rushes to judgment and tries to shut down the investigation before it begins is doing incredible harm to the nation and President Trump’s legacy,” Tillis said in a post.
Administration officials have been firm in their defense of tough immigration tactics.
Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said “it’s a tragedy when anyone dies,” but he blamed Democratic leaders in Minnesota for “creating chaos.”
“There are a lot of paid agitators who are stirring things up and the governor has not done a good job of curbing that,” Pisant said on ABC’s “This Week.”
