MONCHENGLADBACH, Germany (AP) — Kevin Stöger’s first goal of the season helped Borussia Mönchengladbach beat St. Pauli 2-0 and boost its hopes of avoiding relegation to the Bundesliga on Friday.
Stöger was playing in his 200th Bundesliga game and, before the break, took a magnificent free kick from 25 meters over the St. Pauli wall.

Franck Honorat added the second in the second half when he headed a low shot wide with his left foot.
It was a comfortable win for 12th-place Gladbach, moving four points clear of a crowded relegation zone.
Only five points separate 10th-place Hamburg and penultimate St. Pauli in the last of the relegation places.
