Despite being marketed as a tough and very durable vehicle, the Tesla Cybertruck has an Achilles heel that has been a complete surprise to several drivers.
What is happening?
First reported by Torque News, a Cybertruck owner shared his frustrations with how quickly his electric vehicle seems to wear out tires. Real estate broker Leon Lee took to the Facebook page Cybertruck Owners Only to share his experience and seek advice on how to remedy the situation.

“I have 37,000 miles on my Tesla Cybertruck and I already have my second pair of tires,” Lee wrote in his post. “First set of tires were done at 22,000 miles and yes, I did the alignment with Tesla Service! Who has the same situation? I don’t think this is normal. Any ideas?”
Although Lee did not reveal when he purchased his Cybertruck or the exact details about how hard he drives his vehicle, it was clear that he was eager to find a solution. And while several Cybertruck owners questioned Lee’s driving capabilities, others shared similar experiences with tires wearing out too quickly.
“That’s normal. Mine only lasted 17,000 miles,” one commenter wrote.
Why is tire durability important?
Whether you drive a Tesla Cybertruck or a gas-powered midsize sedan, having a set of tires you can trust is vital to overall safety. Its condition directly affects the handling, braking and stability of any type of vehicle. This can make a big difference when facing challenges along the way.
According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2023 there were 646 traffic deaths due to tire-related accidents. The cause of these accidents ranged from inadequate tire pressure to inadequate tread.
While an average all-season tire is generally expected to last between 50,000 and 70,000 miles, some drivers may see a much shorter life from their tires. Similar to Lee’s experience, tire tread can also degrade at higher speeds for several reasons. This includes how hard a vehicle is driven and how long the tires have been in place.
What is being done about the durability of Cybertruck tires?
The Tesla Cybertruck has certainly had an interesting run since it was first launched in November 2023. Despite the initial hype around the all-electric pickup truck, it has posted disappointing sales figures over the past two years, especially with the high asking price.
With a total weight of over 6,000 pounds, the Cybertruck can put a lot of pressure on any set of tires, adding to the already high cost of ownership. However, with regular maintenance, including checking pressure and rotating tires, drivers can still get the most out of their vehicle. Not only can this significantly extend the life of your tires, but it can also save you money on early replacements.

Adjusting the way you drive your Cybertruck can also play an important role in extending the vehicle’s overall durability.
“It’s the instantaneous torque that wears out the tires. Every time you accelerate from a stop, you’ll wear out the tires if you’re not careful. If you gently step on the Go pedal, the tires will last longer,” another user suggested.
