The Toronto Blue Jays came within inches of a third World Series title this season, and now they need to go into the offseason to make sure they can finally get over the hump. With the possible departure of Bo Bichette, getting a superstar is a must.

Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells believes that if Bichette leaves, there is one shortstop Toronto could pursue: five-time All-Star and two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager.

“Now, the Blue Jays are in a position where they need to figure out what they’re going to do at shortstop. Bo Bichette is a free agent at the age of 27 and is coming off a good season. While the potential for Toronto to retain a homegrown talent like Bichette would be a good story, Seager is arguably a better all-around player right now. The only downside is that Seager is four years older than Bichette, so the Blue Jays would be sacrificing some their long-term future, but they came so close to a title this season and believe they will be among the best teams in the American League again next season that they can afford to have tunnel vision if the opportunity to acquire Seager arose,” Wells wrote.

Last season, Seager hit .271/.373/.487/.860 with 19 doubles, 21 home runs and 50 RBIs in 102 games. While he doesn’t have Bichette’s contact, he makes up for it with more power.

Seager is also, overall, a better defender. Bichette is one of the worst defensive shortstops in the league, with an OAA of -13, while Seager has an OAA of four. Overall, Seager is simply a better player, with more accolades to prove it.

As long as the Blue Jays are okay with aging at shortstop, pursuing Seager should be a top priority. Hopefully, they will begin talks with the Texas Rangers as soon as they can.
