Kansas Jayhawk News

After the big win on Big Monday, the Jayhawks’ conference and national title hopes are looking a little better according to SI:

KU will have a chance to make up some ground in a couple of weeks when the Jayhawks host Houston on Big Monday on Feb. 23 before traveling to Tucson a few days later to face Arizona in a rematch on Feb. 28.

If KU can somehow pull off both wins, they will surely end up being league champions when the season ends. If they win the conference, it will be the first time since the 2022-23 season.

FanSided’s Erica Brockish wonders if Bill Self may have ruffled some feathers by talking about the game Monday night:

“Guys, we’re going to play bigger games than this, just like Arizona is going to play bigger games than this, but it was probably as big a game as college basketball has ever had,” Self said. “I could be wrong. I would say, to date.”

Bruce Pearl and Jalen Rose discuss Peterson’s limited availability and the impact it may have on his draft status:

“I don’t think this is going to affect his draft stock, because I think everyone I talk to in the league still looks like the No. 1 player. But if I were a coach in the NBA, I’m sorry, I’d be worried about missing 11 of 24 games because of hamstring and quad strains and illnesses, just a long list of different things,” Pearl said.

Frank Sciarroni of Busting Brackets (never heard of that) breaks down how good KU is without Darryn Peterson:

In the end, Peterson’s absence didn’t matter as Kansas used a valiant defensive performance in the second half and got a standout play from big man Flory Bidunga to secure the victory, handing Arizona its first loss of the season in front of a raucous crowd at Allen Fieldhouse.

ABC10 wonders if Flory is making the best case for Big 12 Player of the Year. I didn’t see it coming at the beginning of the season. (the link is to a video, for your information)

There isn’t much news on the football front, but a pair of Jayhawks became Super Bowl champions over the weekend. Is it a sign of how bad the game was that he’s basically out of memory by now or is it just something on my mind?

The Daily Kansan has an article on the new Muppet Show and says it’s as good as ever. I haven’t heard much about it but I’ll have to check it out.

In September 1976, a variety show called “The Muppet Show” aired for the first time; just under five years later, on March 15, 1981, the show ended. As of February 4, 2026, the show is back, with guest star Sabrina Carpenter and executive producer Seth Rogen having established itself as a strong start to the return of the Muppets.

And we have some competition in town for the new Olive Garden as a new wing opens.

Slate’s Alex Kirshner warns that Olympic hockey is about to get Trumpy.

Now, 46 years later, the US Olympic teams have entered a very different environment at the Milan Cortina Games. This year’s US hockey teams, now both men’s and women’s, are not the favorites, unlike the Miracle on Ice team. However, once again they are prepared for a meeting with a country that has been in their government’s geopolitical crosshairs.

Will 2020 ever die?

An FBI investigation into the 2020 election in Georgia’s Fulton County was launched by a lawyer who works for the Trump administration and who also assisted in President Trump’s efforts to try to overturn that election years ago, according to an affidavit unsealed Tuesday.

Something may be happening along the border with Mexico when the FAA stops flights around El Paso for the next 10 days.

The temporary flight restrictions began Tuesday night for “special safety reasons,” according to a notice on the FAA website. Flights will be prohibited until February 20.
