WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A Kansas mother hosted a gala Saturday to raise money for suicide prevention programs in schools, in honor of her late daughter, Remington Hope Young.
Amy Young, president and co-founder of the Love Like Remi Foundation, created the organization to honor her daughter, who died by suicide in 2022.
“I don’t want my daughter to be the girl who took her own life, I want her to be the person who saves them,” Young said.
The goal of the gala was to raise money to implement suicide prevention programs in as many schools as possible.

“I think mental health issues are getting younger and younger and it’s really sad to know that this is the second leading cause of death for kids ages 10 to 14, there’s something really wrong with that, and we need to stop it, we need to work on it and that’s what we’re here for,” Young said.
While there is still much to do, the foundation has placed counselors in all elementary schools in the Maize School District.
