Left-hander Kody Funderburk returns to strengthen the Minnesota Twins bullpen
According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, left-hander Kody Funderburk will return to the Twins bullpen on Friday. The 29-year-old was placed on the paternity list Tuesday and is 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA in 12 games.
To clear a spot for Funderburk on the active roster, left-hander Kendry Rojas was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul. Rojas was added to the roster when Funderburk went on paternity leave and pitched two innings and walked three in the Twins’ 3-2 loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

The move to Rojas’ option makes sense, as he will be able to prepare to join the starting rotation if necessary. Right-hander Mick Abel landed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation and the Twins need someone to replace him.
Left-hander Connor Prielipp would be an option, as he too was called up to join the Twins on Wednesday. Prielipp pitched four innings in Wednesday’s loss, allowing two earned runs and striking out six.
Abel’s spot in the rotation will come Monday against the Seattle Mariners. Pitching Wednesday would put Prielipp in the starting lineup.
