With expectations for the second-year player steadily rising, here’s what Higbee had to say about Ferguson and the role he will play in 2026 to make the most of the young talent.
Earlier this week, Higbee spoke about Ferguson, giving a glowing review of Ferguson’s progress, while detailing the responsibilities Ferguson is expected to take on this season.
“I know a lot of people talk about the tight end position being one of the hardest positions to transition from college to the NFL,” Higbee said. “He’s got it. He’s going to be a great player. I even told him that earlier this offseason, working out with him, and I was just telling him that it’s not going to be as big of an onboarding process as it was last year. They’re going to be waiting for you, the coaches and teammates, to be waiting for him to be ready to show up early and I expect the same from him. I’ll help him as much as I can, but he’s going to be a great player. great player and he’s got it. I’m excited to watch the process.”
There is a widespread belief that McVay envisions Ferguson as his next big project. Considering McVay is a former tight ends coach and Ferguson is surrounded by productive, veteran talent, there’s no reason to doubt Ferguson’s ability to rise to the occasion.
