After the Sixers avoided elimination on Tuesday night, the series returns to Philadelphia on Thursday night, where they can force a Game 7 with a win, showing ultimate resolve after struggling from the start. Following Tuesday’s win, Maxey spoke to reporters in Boston and emphasized that the city of Philadelphia and Sixers fans deserve to see a home win.
“Our fans deserve a win at home,” Maxey said after the Game 5 win. “We lost a tough game (Game 3) and then they blew us out of the water (Game 4), so we deserve to go out there and fight. After that performance we put on last time in front of our fans, it was an embarrassment and it was unacceptable. I’m planning on making sure my teammates go out and fight, we scratch and claw, and we try to get that win.”Advertisement
The Celtics cruised to a 32-point victory in Game 4 last Sunday, led by Payton Pritchard’s 32-point outing. Boston struggled in the final 7 minutes of fourth-quarter action in Tuesday’s loss, missing its final 14 shots during that stretch. With the opportunity to close out the series on the road, they will have to avoid any type of stretch of that nature and fight off what appears to be a concerted effort by Maxey and the rest of the Sixers.
