The New York giants threw Jones in the middle of the 2024 season, and the Vikings brought him on board.
Minnesota did not necessarily expect Jones to play. They already had a recovery project, Sam Darnold, playing from their mind with JJ McCarthy in repairing their knee injury.
But it was an opportunity for the Vikings to see Jones, and for Jones to see how the Vikings had changed Darnold’s career.

Now, in 2025, Jones is the seafarence of the head of the Indianapolis Colts and is playing the best football in his career.
The Vikings are in a QB disaster, with McCarthy injured again and Carson Wentz trying to compensate for their absence.
Minnesota, somehow, could really use Jones at this time.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN revealed in a new story on Wednesday that at least some of the people he has talked about in Minnesota also feel that way.
“I know that the Vikings were discouraged to lose Jones, which has an ideal size and a ton of tools, in the low season after their short period there,” Fowler wrote.

Even if Jones had stayed, the Vikings had probable had had McCarthy as his starting field marshal to start the season.
But there are clearly many reasons to like Jones, and maybe Minnesota should have done more to keep him on his side.
