The Vikings defense did a good job against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, but Minnesota never really had a chance to win, because JJ McCarthy was brutally bad.
McCarthy’s final statistics included 87 passing yards and two interceptions.
That’s such a bad stat line for a QB that hasn’t been done since David Carr’s miserable 2002 season with the Texans.

That’s not the company you want to keep. Carr was drafted to an expansion team that couldn’t keep him going.
McCarthy is part of a fantastic football team that simply needs to have a better quarterback.

He did not play in his 2024 rookie season due to a knee injury and missed much of this season with an ankle injury.
McCarthy will likely have this job the rest of the way. With Carson Wentz out, he would really only be a pivot for undrafted rookie Max Brosmer if McCarthy were benched.
But the former Michigan star isn’t doing himself any favors in terms of keeping the job in Minnesota long-term.
