Bayern Munich’s 18-match unbeaten run at the start of the 2025/26 campaign came to an end on Wednesday night as Germany’s record champions suffered a 3-1 UEFA Champions League defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

Ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga match against St. Pauli, Vincent Kompany wants to see a reaction, but expects an equally difficult match.

“We never want to lose, we don’t accept it and we don’t like it.” Kompany said at Friday’s press conference. “But it’s about the reaction at this point in the season, from the game against Arsenal and now against St. Pauli.

“It’s all a process to prepare us to be there for the big moments later in the season.”

Speaking about the threat that St. Pauli represents, despite occupying the relegation playoff, Kompany added: “It’s been difficult for us against them twice recently. We keep that in mind, we know it won’t be difficult, even though they’ve lost eight games.

“The game against Bayern could also be different for them. A game like that puts less pressure on you when you are at the bottom of the table, which could be positive for St. Pauli.”
