Tacoma is excited about the Seahawks’ Super Bowl game, and the excitement has reached City Hall.

The Tacoma City Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 3 meeting to authorize city officials to fly the “12” flag at the Tacoma Dome. The vote also allows the flag to be raised at the Tacoma Municipal Building, the Tacoma Police Department headquarters and the Tacoma Fire Department headquarters, pending the availability of Seahawks flags.

The flag will be flown beginning Feb. 5 and will remain raised no more than seven days after Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 8, according to the council resolution.

It’s part of the city’s recognition of the team’s entry into the Super Bowl, which the resolution authorizing the flag’s raising described as an “important regional milestone.”

Council members voted on the issue during the meeting while wearing Seahawks clothing and colors, ranging from green ties and blazers to Seahawks t-shirts and hoodies.

“This is my moment: I’ve been a Seahawks fan forever,” said board member John Hines.
