As of Saturday night, LSU officials believe they have a commitment that Lane Kiffin will be the school’s next head coach, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.

However, Dellenger reported that the big issue preventing the coach from finalizing a $90 million-plus deal with LSU is that Kiffing wants to stay at Ole Miss to coach during the College Football Playoff.
That’s probably what’s preventing a decision from being made right now: Kiffin’s desire to stay with Ole Miss until the team’s season formally ends. He needs Ole Miss to approve that plan; They clearly haven’t done it yet.

Kiffin met with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter and chancellor Glenn Boyce on Saturday for more than three hours, but no final decision was reached after that meeting.

while it is possible Kiffin could change his mind and stay with Ole Miss at the last second, all signs right now point to Kiffin coaching at LSU in 2026.
Apparently it’s just a question of whether Kiffin will finish Ole Miss’ 2025 season or not…and whether we’ll actually find out what happens Saturday night.
