Each year, the Spencer Penrose Award is presented to the CCM/AHCA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Coach of the Year.

Hastings has now won this award three times, although all three occasions came during his time at Minnesota State. The 2015, 2021 and 2022 winner is one of only three coaches to have won the award on three separate occasions. The most impressive thing is that he is the only coach in the 75-year history to have won it in consecutive seasons.
Now, Hastings is eyeing a historic fourth Spencer Penrose Award. His ability to lead the No. 12 Badgers to the Frozen Four speaks for itself, and their sweep of No. 6 Penn State to end the regular season was extremely impressive.
While an early exit from the conference tournament might have slowed this team, Hastings was still able to guide Wisconsin to its second NCAA Tournament appearance in his last three years.Advertisement
In total, Hastings is one of 10 finalists. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, April 8.
