Boone made the comments in his postgame press conference following Wednesday’s 7-0 win at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The Yankees outscored the Giants 10-3. Reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge was the only Yankee player who failed to get a hit.

“We have a lot to prove and look, we have confidence,” Boone told reporters. “I know they’re confident in their ability to have good at-bats and score runs. We’re one game away from this and we still have a long way to go to prove it. I think we have a chance to do it.”
Boone called ace Max Fried “effectively wild.” The left-handed pitcher allowed the first three Giants he faced to reach base. He then calmed down, allowing just one more hit and striking out four over the next six innings.
“Giving us 6 1/3 after the way he started the first inning was huge,” Boone said of Fried. “This is what an ace looks like when he’s grinding. What a tone he set for us.”
Shortstop José Caballero drove in the first run of the MLB season with an RBI single in the second. Third baseman Ryan McMahon singled off Giants ace Logan Webb in the next at-bat, scoring two more runs for the Yankees.

Center fielder Trent Grisham hit a two-run triple to right field for a 5-0 lead two at-bats in. The Yankees got the final two runs of the night in the fifth inning on an RBI single by designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton and a throwing error by Giants shortstop Willy Adames.

Yankees relief pitchers Jake Bird, Brent Headrick and Camilo Doval combined to allow just one hit, with two strikeouts and a walk, over the final 2 2/3 innings.
Stanton and Yankees catcher Austin Wells each recorded two hits. Wells, who also walked, was the only player to reach base three times. McMahon and first baseman Ben Rice also reached base several times in the victory.
