The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder is reclassifying through the 2026 cycle, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed. He has long been the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, but will now play his final season at the high school level this fall.
Guyton committed to Texas Tech in early August and chose the Red Raiders over nearly every other major program in the country.
According to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Guyton was expected to visit Georgia this weekend for the Bulldogs’ matchup against Ole Miss. UGA was long considered the favorite to land him ahead of a big push from the Red Raiders this summer.
Even after he committed, Georgia’s staff reiterated that they would continue to pursue him, and that’s exactly what they’ve done.
“I mean, they got it,” Guyton told UGASports.com last month. “At the end of the day, I have a family. But they just let me know they weren’t going anywhere.”
LaDamion Guyton Scouting Summary
Rivals’ director of scouting and rankings previously wrote this about Guyton as a 2027 prospect:
“Early favorite as EDGE’s top prospect in the 2027 cycle. Explosive, powerful pass-rusher with an elite curve around the edge early. Shows high-level first-step quickness. Stays very low while running the arc, lowering his shoulder to elude offensive tackles. Converts speed into power with ease. Also shows early signs of good hand usage, quickly disengaging on the contact. Plays with a high motor and chases plays from sideline to sideline. Productive in his first two collegiate seasons at Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian, totaling 33 tackles for loss while playing alongside Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Transferred to Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military for his junior season. Can improve your finishing ability in the backfield, as his ability to disrupt doesn’t always manifest itself in dominant stats. “Length and build are average for the position.”
