Koulibaly, 34, who led Senegal to victory in the 2021 edition of the tournament, was sent off in the 71st minute of a 3-0 win over Benin in Group D in Tangier on Tuesday.

Koulibaly was initially given a yellow card for his foul on Aiyegun Tosin, when he stepped on the back of the Benin striker’s ankle with his boot, but it was upgraded to red after a VAR review.
His absence made little difference as Cherif Ndiaye converted a stoppage-time penalty to seal the victory and Senegal won Group D, ensuring they remain in Tangier for their first knockout match on Saturday against a third-placed team from Groups B, E or F.
