Plainfield Township, Michigan — An explosion occurred at a home in Michigan early Tuesday, killing one person and leaving another in critical condition, authorities said.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire and explosion that occurred around 4 a.m. in the town of Plainfield, north of Grand Rapids.
When authorities arrived, the home was destroyed and the wreckage was engulfed in flames, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. One person died.
Two neighbors dragged a woman from the house after hearing her screams.
“I had to get in there and get her out,” Tim Johnson, a neighbor, told WOOD-TV. He said they “grabbed her arms and pulled her as far as we could.”
The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The explosion rocked Johnson’s house, and he suffered second-degree burns to his head and hand.
