TRUCKEE, CA — that Avalanche Authorities in California’s Sierra Nevada said a man buried a snowmobile in the snow and killed himself on Monday.
Rescuers responded after a 911 call around 2:20 p.m. reporting a possible avalanche near Johnson Peak and Castle Peak in Truckee.
The snowmobile was initially reported missing, but was found under the snow several minutes later, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
According to the statement, he was found by his colleagues in the entertainment industry, but he did not survive despite efforts to save his life.
Emergency personnel were working to safely recover the victim late Monday and ensure no one else was buried.
The Sheriff’s Office said more avalanches could occur and recommended people avoid the area.
