Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted catastrophic damage in St Elizabeth Parish on October 29, caused by Hurricane Melissa the previous day. Aerial images posted on social media by Holness offer a panoramic view of the severely damaged Black River. Other clips show the prime minister interacting and consoling some people affected by the massive destruction. “The damage is great, but we will dedicate all our energy to mounting a solid recovery,” he said in the post. Although a persistent tropical storm warning was lifted Wednesday morning, Jamaica faces significant recovery efforts. Much of its infrastructure was destroyed and 77 percent of the island was left without power, according to local news reports. (Andrew Holness via Storyful)
