A report from NJ.com suggests that another loss in the ALDS could mean Boone’s dismissal, even though he is under contract through the 2027 season. In the post-game press conference, Boone was asked if he doesn’t expect to return in 2026.
The Yankees manager denied it, adding:
“I’m under contract. So I don’t expect anything.”
Aaron Boone is asked if he has any reason to think he won’t return next year as Yankees manager:

The Yankees are seeking their first World Series since winning it in 2009. They came close after reaching the Fall Classic last year. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated them in five games. With players like Aaron Judge consistently displaying MVP-level play, the onus falls on Boone to make this club good enough to win the World Series.
The former coach does not believe that Aaron Boone will win anything with the Yankees
Although owner Hal Steinbrenner has reportedly shown no inclination to fire Aaron Boone before his contract expires, former Yankees manager and Reds Hall of Famer Sean Casey believes that “losers don’t become winners overnight.” Casey doesn’t believe Boone can lead the Yankees to ultimate glory.
“In the end, Aaron Boone could not lead the Yankees to a championship, as many of us have believed this season and in previous seasons,” Casey wrote on his blog.
In eight seasons, Boone has led the Yankees to October in all but one. However, they have only been able to get past the divisional round of the postseason on three occasions. Their overall win rate is 58.4%, but in the postseason it drops below 50%.
